What happens if I don’t show up for my court date?
If you fail to show up to court on the required date, the judge will likely
issue an order for your arrest.
What can I expect from a hearing?
The first time you show up for court should be your arraignment –
this is the formal reading of the charges against you and an explanation
of the penalties you could face if convicted of those charges. After this,
you will be asked how you plea. If you enter a guilty plea, your case
will move to sentencing. If you plead not guilty, your case will move
to pre-trial/trial.
What happens during trial at Scottsdale Municipal Court?
Step 1 – the case is called by the judge. This commences your hearing.
Both you, as the defendant, and the prosecutor, will be given a chance
to address the judge via an opening statement. The state must prove, beyond
a reasonable doubt, that you are guilty of the charge(s) against you.
The burden of proof is on them.
How do I get in touch with the court?
Although closed on holidays, the court is always open weekdays from 8am
to 5pm. You can call the court at 480-312-2442.
