Truck Accident Injure Thousands Every Year
There were more than 12,000 truck accidents in Arizona in 2015, injuring more than 3,000 people and killing 114 more. In a nationwide study, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) discovered that there was a 20 percent increase in fatal truck crashes between 2009 and 2013, and a 55 percent increase in injuries caused by truck crashes between 2009 and 2014[1]. The truck driver was responsible for the crash in more than half of the cases they FMCSA studied, and identified the three leading factors causing crashes in their Large Truck Crash Causation Study:
- 22 percent of truck crashes were the result of the driver rear-ending the vehicle ahead of them in lane.
- 29 percent of truck crashes were the result of the driver losing control of their truck due to speeding, shifting cargo, systems failure, poor road conditions, etc.
- 32 percent of truck crashes were the result of the driver running into a different lane or off the road.
Truck drivers spend their careers behind the wheel of their vehicles, and are expected to meet the standards set forth by their regulatory bodies. When they fail to adhere to these safety regulations and act negligently, they can cause a catastrophic crash causing serious injury and even death. If you were one of those people injured in a truck accident, you may look at your mounting medical bills with an ever-growing feeling of dread.
