About Our Firm
The Firm Phoenix Trusts When the Stakes Are Highest
MayesTelles PLLC was founded in 2010 by two University of Arizona Law School classmates who had each spent years inside Arizona's criminal justice system before coming together to build something specific: a criminal defense firm that thinks like the prosecution, because most of the team has been the prosecution.
David Telles came out of the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, where he prosecuted serious felony and sex crime cases. Blake Mayes brings experience from a federal district court clerkship and complex commercial litigation.
That was the foundation — and it still defines how this firm approaches every case today.
If you or someone you love has been arrested or is under investigation, call us now. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
MayesTelles PLLC handles criminal defense cases throughout Arizona as its primary focus, from serious felonies and DCAC & sex crime matters to DUI, drug offenses, domestic violence, white collar crimes, and federal charges. The firm also represents personal injury clients — including those injured in motor vehicle accidents, wrongful death cases, and serious injury matters — and handles immigration cases, including removal defense and Ninth Circuit appeals. A $1,000,000 policy limits settlement in a fatal commercial vehicle accident reflects the same level of preparation the firm brings to every case it takes.
Why MayesTelles PLLC Is Arizona's #1 Criminal Defense Firm
The Team We Built
Most law firms assign you one attorney and hope for the best. At MayesTelles PLLC, every case is worked as a team.
Every week, all of our attorneys sit down together, review every active case, and develop a strategy collectively. As Blake Mayes has said, “if you're a client of the firm I can almost guarantee you that I've looked at your case and a number of the other attorneys in the firm have seen your case."
That is not an accident. It is how the firm was designed.
The attorneys at MayesTelles PLLC come from backgrounds that almost no other Phoenix firm can assemble under one roof — former prosecutors, a former Bureau Chief, a former Judge Pro Tem, former federal law enforcement, and a DUI specialist who is a retired police officer.
When they sit down together every week to discuss your case, they are not just exchanging opinions. They are exchanging institutional knowledge built from every side of the Arizona criminal justice system.
You are not hiring one lawyer. You are hiring all of us.
What We Actually Care About
Both Blake Mayes and David Telles say the same thing when they talk about this firm: the most important thing is winning for their clients.
Most clients who come to MayesTelles PLLC have never been in this situation before. They are scared. They do not understand the system. They do not know what is going to happen next. The firm's job — from the first phone call — is to change that. To explain the process. To be honest about what is coming. To make sure every client understands what their attorney is doing on their behalf and why.
Trust isn't optional here — it's essential to getting a good result. As Blake Mayes puts it, the firm only hires attorneys who share that philosophy: true empathy for clients, and a genuine commitment to fighting for the best possible outcome for each person, regardless of what they are charged with.
Recognized by Peers. Prepared for Trial.
MayesTelles PLLC has been named the #1 Criminal Defense Law Firm in Arizona by Ranking Arizona seven consecutive years — the only Phoenix firm with that distinction. Both founding partners are recognized Top 100 Trial Lawyers. Blake Mayes holds the AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell® since 2009 and was selected to Super Lawyers in 2026.
Those recognitions come from peers — other attorneys and judges in the Arizona legal community. They are consistent because the preparation is consistent.
Every case at MayesTelles PLLC is prepared with a trial-ready posture from day one. Most cases do not go to trial — but that preparation is what forces the State to confront weaknesses early, produces leverage in negotiations, and protects clients when the government overcharges or overreaches. What clients see is the outcome: charges reduced, evidence excluded, a result that reflects the actual strength of the State's case.
