Methylendedioxymethylamphetamine (MDMA), also known as "ecstasy," "X," or "XTC," is known for increasing a sense of intimacy and diminishing anxiety, and can induce euphoria and mild psychedelia. Recreationally, ecstasy is known as a club drug and is frequently used at house parties, raves, and music festivals. People often take ecstasy with LSD, mushrooms and marijuana.

In the United States, ecstasy is a Schedule I drug, joining a class of drugs with no medical use and a high potential for abuse. Internationally, it is a Schedule I drug under the Convention of Psychotropic Substances.

In Arizona, ecstasy is considered a "dangerous drug." The penalties for dangerous drugs (any amount), including ecstasy are covered under A.R.S. § 13-3407, which are as follows:

  • Possession or use – Class 4 felony
  • Possession for sale – Class 2 felony
  • Manufacturing – Class 2 felony
  • Administering – Class 2 felony
  • Transporting or importing, Class 2 felony

The terms of imprisonment for a Class 2 felony are 3 to 12.5 years, and for a Class 4 felony, 1 to 3.75 years. A conviction for an offense involving ecstasy may also include fines, mandatory drug testing, and community service.

If you have been arrested for an offense involving ecstasy, you could be facing up to 12.5 years in prison depending on the facts of the case. When your future is hanging by a thread, you must act fast to secure a strong defense.
